On June 5, 2025, Ryuto Hirata External Affairs Officer participated in the "Policy Pitch" event hosted by PoliPoli Inc. He presented a policy proposal emphasizing the critical role of Japan’s leadership in global health amidst increasing global instability.
The event brought together members of the Japanese Diet, government officials, and experts in global health. A panel discussion titled "A New Approach to Health Security through 'New Capitalism’" featured prominent speakers including Mr. Fumio Kishida (Member of the House of Representatives, Former Prime Minister), Mr. Seiji Kihara (Member of the House of Representatives), and Mr. Ken Shibusawa (Leader of Business Leaders' Coalition for Global Health).

In January 2025, the U.S. government announced the suspension of USAID funding, leading to significant cuts in Official Development Assistance (ODA). Affected countries are already facing critical challenges as a result of these program suspensions. Over 11 million zero-dose children remain in Gavi-supported countries, demonstrating just how far we still have to go.
In response to this urgent situation, we submitted a policy proposal urging Japan to demonstrate leadership in the international community, especially in the health sector. Our two key recommendations are:
①Increased and sustained contributions to Gavi 6.0
②Promotion of human resource development through the UHC Knowledge Hub
With both the Gavi Vaccine Alliance 6.0 replenishment and the 8th Global Fund Replenishment Conference scheduled for 2025, this year represents a pivotal moment for global health financing and leadership. We will continue our advocacy efforts, incorporating the valuable feedback and insights we received from this event.
