At the opening ceremony of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), held on August 20th (Wed), Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced Japan’s commitment of 550 million USD to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance’s 4th replenishment (Gavi 6.0, 2026–2030). In response, Gavi CEO Dr. Sania Nishtar, who was visiting Japan, expressed her deep gratitude for Japan’s decision.

NGO Reaching Zero-Dose Children has taken initiative in advocating for Gavi’s 4th replenishment since 2023. In June, our External Affairs Officer, Ryuto Hirata, presented policy recommendations underscoring the critical role of Japan’s leadership in global health amidst increasing global instability.

On August 21st (Thu), our Executive Director, Aomi Katagiri, spoke directly with Dr. Sania Nishtar at Gavi’s reception. Dr. Sania Nishtar conveyed her appreciation for our organization’s advocacy efforts that contributed to Japan’s decision. She also commended our continued focus on the critical issue of zero-dose children.

Details on our policy recommendation made in June is available on our website As a reference, the policy pitch held in June 2025, was featured in Asahi Shimbun with Planet.

In response to this announcement, NGO Reaching Zero-Dose Children will work even harder to carry out our activities. We sincerely appreciate your continued support.
