Research team including Aomi Katagiri, Yuka Iijima, Hikari Ohyama published a commentary “Japan’s emerging role in bridging immunisation gap and supporting global health” in BMJ Global Health (impact factor 6.1).
As some high-income countries scale back their foreign aid, routine immunization and child health programs in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in the Global South, face a crisis. Japan continues its support for global health, including the immunization sector.
Leveraging Japan’s longstanding expertise in maternal and child health, its efforts to advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and recent initiatives such as the UHC knowledge hub, Japan is called upon to demonstrate leadership in supporting sustainable health systems amid the contemporary unpredictable global landscape.
