On Friday, November 7th, our External Affairs Officer, Ryuto Hirata spoke at the "Policy Pitch" event held at the Prefectural Assembly Hall.
This event brought together young people engaged in policy recommendations and advocacy within the global health sector. They shared solution-oriented ideas, based on field experience and evidence, with an audience that included National Diet members and representatives from the private sector. The discussion notably moved beyond merely extending past global health policies. Instead, it centered on more fundamental questions, such as the very nature of international aid and the core reasons why Japan engages in global health. A particular focus was placed on how these efforts contribute to the "national interest."
Our organization delivered a presentation on the challenges of explaining ODA contributions to the public to gain their understanding, and proposed solutions to address them.
This event provided a valuable opportunity to exchange opinions with many participants, fostering a shared awareness of the issues and sparking discussion on concrete approaches.
